Senbernar

The birthplace of the St. Bernards is the Swiss Alps. Their rare are Asian mastiffs and Molossian dogs of the ancient Romans, who fell into the mountains during conquests.

In the 11th century, the dogs that lived at the monastery of St. Bernard in the Swiss Alps received the same name. From the 17th century the monks living here began to use dogs to search and rescue travelers in the mountains.

In the Middle Ages, St. Bernards were smaller and more mobile, had a special scent that made it possible to find people who fell under an avalanche. They had the ability to feel the approach of avalanches, than repeatedly saved the life of the inhabitants of the monastery. One of the most famous Saint Bernards was called Barry. Over 10 years of his life, he found and pulled out from under the avalanches of about 40 people. Continue reading

Russian toy terrier

Dwarf decorative breed of dogs, which has two varieties: long-haired and smooth-haired.

ORIGIN
At the beginning of the 20th century in Russia, among the decorative breeds of dogs, English toy terriers were common. With the advent of Soviet power, the population of this breed declined sharply. In the middle of the 20th century. domestic breeders set out to create a small decorative breed of dogs, reminiscent of an English toy terrier. The first representatives of the Russian toy terrier were received in the mid-1950s. by breeding various small dogs imported from abroad. Selection was aimed at obtaining individuals of the minimum size. Thanks to the introduction of Chihuahua genes, the Russian Toy Terrier received new colors. When breeding dogs with longer hair were also obtained, which they began to use for breeding long-haired toy terriers. The first club of breed lovers was founded in 1996. In 2006, the International Cynological Federation temporarily recognized the Russian smooth-haired toy terrier and the Moscow long-haired toy terrier, but combined these two varieties into one breed of “Russian toy”, under these conditions, Russian “toy” can not claim the CACIB title (candidate for international beauty champions) at international exhibitions. According to the rules for registering new breeds, at least 10 years must pass before the RKF recognizes breed standards at the international level. Continue reading

Rizenschnauzer

Giant Schnauzer is a breed of dog with a name that has German roots. Literally: Riesenschnauzer from riesen – giant, schnauze – face. You can still find such breed names as “bearish” or “Russian schnauzer”, and if “bearish” can still be justified by the size of the dog, then “Russian” has no historical background. The Giant Schnauzer is the largest breed in the top three Schnauzers, along with the middling schnauzer (middle) and the miniature schnauzer (miniature). Giant Schnauzers possess not only a very memorable appearance, but also a wonderful character. Currently, the breed is used as a guard and companion dog, a police service dog, and a bloodhound. The history of the origin of the breed has not been fully elucidated, there are many versions, we will focus on a brief squeeze of some of them. Most likely, the birthplace of the breed is Germany, and the main purpose of the rizen was to graze sheep. Continue reading
