Akita-inu

ORIGIN
Among the dog breeds, whose history goes back centuries, Akita Inu stands out. Akita is a prefecture in northern Japan, and Inu is a dog in Japanese. In Asia, they were favorite pets at court, and over time, Akita Inu began to enjoy privileges with the nobility. This elite of the dog greatly affected the development of the breed as a whole. Keeping, feeding and caring for the Akita Inu turned into a whole ceremony. Each dog had its own personal servant. For them, special collars and leashes were even made, by which it was possible to recognize the rank of the dog and the position of its owner in society. Everything around me respected the respect that Akita Inu enjoyed.

Today this popular breed is known all over the world. After minor mixing of blood, dog handlers distinguish several basic colors of the breed:

brindle (the presence of white, red or black);
red (has a red color, diluted with white spots on the paws, stomach and face);
white (without spots and stripes of a different color);
American (distinguished by a dense physique and large size).
DIMENSIONS, WEIGHT. APPEARANCE
Weight: 32–45 kg females, 40–45 kg males. Height at withers: 58–64 cm females, 64–70 cm males. Coat of medium length, having a developed thick and soft undercoat. Often these dogs are compared with cats: their coat looks impeccable and there is absolutely no specific dog smell. The muscles are very developed, requires regular training.

CHARACTER AND FEATURES
Dogs of this breed are owners of impeccable manners, which makes them wonderful members of the family. Patient and affectionate towards children. Very loyal to the owner. But, despite their loyalty and devotion, Akita Inu have a strong character and willpower, so it’s not easy to train such dogs. This breed is best suited for experienced dog breeders, as a simple person can not cope with her temper and harm the dog.

You can buy a puppy of this beautiful breed from breeders or in a specialized kennel, because only in this case you are guaranteed to get not only a beautiful dog, but also a friend with good genetics.

When choosing a puppy, you should pay attention to the following:

1) it is recommended to choose an animal from a small litter, where all puppies are of medium size;

2) ask the breeder to familiarize you with the dog’s pedigree; find out about the presence of awards, as well as possible genetic diseases and allergies;

3) you can learn more about the appearance and character of a future friend by meeting his parents;

4) a healthy puppy is mobile, has a good appetite, playful character, shiny eyes, smooth coat and clean ears.

CARE
It’s easy to take care of Akita Inu. It can be kept both in the apartment and on the street. You should not bathe the dog often, once or twice a year is usually enough. It is recommended to comb the hair a couple of times a week to reduce its amount in the house. The main thing for this dog is daily walks.

Susceptibility to diseases
Akita Inu are strong animals with good health. They live an average of about 12 years. However, they are predisposed to a number of hereditary diseases. Among the problems with the musculoskeletal system, hip dysplasia is quite common. To identify pathology in the early stages from the age of 6 months, it is worth showing the dog an orthopedist.

Sometimes you can see a stomach twist – a life-threatening situation associated with the structural features of the ligamentous apparatus of the stomach. It is important to remember that you cannot walk with these dogs immediately after eating, so any feeding should be done after the next walk.

Also, eye diseases are common among this breed: eyelid inversion, progressive retinal atrophy, glaucoma, cataract. Therefore, the condition of the dog’s eyes should be regularly monitored.

FEEDING RECOMMENDATIONS
For the formation of a healthy musculoskeletal system, the development of a strong psyche, strong immunity and a beautiful exterior, it is very important to remember about proper nutrition. After all, it is the food consumed by the animal that brings into the body the very nutrients that will form the basis of the emerging organism and will maintain the health of the dog for many years of life.
