How not to get dirty on a walk?

In the fall, every walk with the dog becomes a challenge. Sometimes pets are so smeared in dirt that they have to sweat before washing them. How to solve the problem and maintain the perfect appearance of the pet?
Autumn is beautiful, but it also has a downside. For example, slush, precipitation, spray from passing cars and puddles. All this turns a walk with a dog into a real obstacle course. The coat and skin of the pet quickly get dirty, and light cleaning after a walk is not able to remove all impurities. As a result, the dog smudges the apartment, and sometimes due to moisture an unpleasant smell of a dog is formed.

Special clothes for dogs help to solve the problem. But in order for it to serve efficiently and not hamper the movement of the pet, it is very important to choose it correctly.

Special clothes for the dog can protect the dog not only from pollution, but also from hypothermia and injuries of the skin.

How to choose the right clothes for the dog?
9 points will help – take note!

Seasonality
Clothing for dogs, like clothing for people, is broken down by season. There are demi-season models, autumn-spring, winter and summer: for example, stylish lightweight vests.

To choose the right type of clothing, you need to determine the tasks that it should solve. To protect the dog from moisture, a lightweight compact raincoat is suitable, but to protect it from the cold, you will need more serious clothes: an insulated jumpsuit with a hood and, possibly, shoes.

Much of the choice of clothing depends on the breed and the state of health of the dog, on weather conditions in the area where she lives. After all, if the Samoyed feels great at minus 30, then for the Chinese crested such weather is unacceptable.

One dog will need a vest for protection from wind and cold. Others – for example, with a tendency to otitis – will need a jumpsuit with a dense hood.

Choose clothes based on the pedigree and individual characteristics of the pet and do not hesitate to consult with experts.

The size
Clothing for dogs is divided into sizes: XS – for miniature breeds, S – for small, M – for medium and L – for large. However, rely only on the dimensional grid is not worth it. It is better to take measurements from a specific dog and already pick up clothes on them. What parameters will be required?

– back length: measured from the beginning of the shoulder blades to the base of the tail

– neck circumference: measured at the base, i.e. in the widest part of the neck

– chest girth: measured behind the front paws, in the widest part of the chest

– waist: measured in front of the hind legs, in the narrowest part of the abdomen

– foreleg length: measured from the base of the chest to the wrist

– hind legs length: measured from the base to the calcaneus.

Be careful when taking measurements. The convenience of your pet depends on the correctness of the values.

Fitting
In order not to make a mistake with the purchase, it is better to take the dog with you to the store and try on clothes directly on it.

Clothing should not be too tight or too loose. Take a walk with the dog to the store. If she is already accustomed to clothes and feels comfortable, then her gait and movements will not change.

Fabric quality
Here, too, everything is like people. The better the fabric – the longer the thing will last. The material should be pleasant to the touch, dense, elastic.

Do a little test: remember the fabric and rub it in your hands, as during washing. There will be no trace left on high-quality fabric, and it will quickly recover. If possible, test moisture resistance. Put a little clean water on the jumpsuit: the outer fabric should not let it through.

Pay special attention to the lining fabric (if available). It should be soft and pleasant to the skin. For dogs with long hair, a satin lining is a good option, and for shorthair – fleece.

Sewing quality
The main rule: the less seams – the better. If there are many seams on the clothes, they will rub the skin and bring the dog discomfort. And also such clothes become blown and leak moisture.

It is important that the seams are even, so that no threads stick out anywhere, and the cut is symmetrical.

Clasp
All fasteners on clothes should be comfortable and of high quality. Dogs – like children – do not like to dress, and a long fastening can result in even more stress. Make sure that the clothes fasten quickly and simply that the fastener does not cause the dog any discomfort.

For long-haired dogs, it is better to choose clothes with buttons or hooks, as long hair can become tangled in zippers and remain stuck with Velcro.

Rubber bands
Pay attention to the “sleeves” of clothing for dogs. Gum on the “sleeves” of the overalls will provide a tight girth and better protect against cold and pollution. But they should not be too tight.

Hood
An indispensable attribute for dogs prone to colds and otitis media.

Reflective elements
A useful “feature” of clothing for dogs, thanks to which your dog will be noticeable on the road even in the dark. Plus 100 points to safety!

After each walk, be sure to clean and dry your clothes.
